| Matt is an experienced litigator and counselor at the firm. Matt began his career as an associate at Godin & Baity, and rejoined the firm in 2012 to serve as Of Counsel. His practice focuses on complex commercial and construction litigation cases involving: breach of contract; mechanic�s liens; construction defects; copyright and trademark infringement; consumer fraud; professional liability; and sale of goods. Matt primarily provides legal representation to owners, general contractors, architects and engineers involved in business and construction disputes. He also routinely advises design professionals and businesses on contract drafting, risk management, and dispute resolution as it relates to business and construction projects and disputes.
As Of Counsel, Matt is responsible for and manages all aspects of counseling the firm�s construction and design professional clients through early project risk assessment, project management, contract drafting and negotiation, pre-litigation claim resolution and mediation. Matt has significant experience and success as a litigator in state and federal courts, binding arbitration, and appeals on complex litigation matters.
In addition to his direct client counseling, pre-claim and litigation experience, he is a frequent author and lecturer on a variety of construction related issues, including mitigation of liability exposure for construction and engineering professionals. He is the co-author of Hard Hat Case Notes for the American Bar Association�s Construction Lawyer publication, as well as a Contributing Editor for The Construction Lawyer and a Steering Committee Member for the ABA Construction Forum�s Division on Design. He is also co-author of the chapter on Design for the ABA Forum�s forthcoming Fundamentals of Construction Law book, and co-author of the chapter on Design Subconsulting Contracts in the ABA Forum�s forthcoming Construction Subcontracting and Teaming book.
